Service Description
This one is for the painters out there. Have fun painting images onto the open mesh of a screen, then squeegeeing your painting through the mesh onto paper to create unique prints. No screenprinting experience necessary. The tutor’s aim is to show you a way of quickly experimenting with an image in an approach that utilises the qualities of the screenprinting process as well as hand drawn or painterly marks. The squeegee becomes a drawing tool, not just a printing tool. The image created in unpredictable and non-repeatable. It is created through guesses and chance. You will need to be comfortable enough with your painting skills to quickly paint an image freehand onto a screen in about 15 mins so that the paint does not dry before you squeegee it through the mesh of the screen. Yes, you push your painting through the screen! Prints will be on A3 size paper. All materials are supplied. Bookings Essential. PLEASE PAY THE ENTIRE COURSE FEE OF $75 ON ARRIVAL (cash, card or bank transfer accepted. *A discounted course fee of $50 is available to those who have completed the basic 5 week screenprinting workshop with this tutor. Maximum of four participants Tutor: Catherine Tempest Coughs and colds are not welcome at the studio. Spending a whole day with others there is a good chance someone will catch your bug so please do not attend if you are sick, even if you wear a mask. What do you need to bring? - Bring several images which you can quickly reproduce using large paint brushes. The image/s can be of anything, eg landscapes, portraits, still life, abstract etc. Wear something you don't mind getting ink on. Screen printing can get messy! Studio aprons can be borrowed. - Closed-in shoes are a must for safety. - Snacks and a drink. The George Cafe across the road is open until midday on Sundays and Waratah Village is 500m down the road. ABOUT THE TUTOR Catherine Tempest has a Bachelor of Art Theory UNSW Art & Design, Sydney which included an exchange semester of drawing and printmaking at Aberystwyth University, Wales, an Advanced Diploma Visual Art majoring in printmaking and photography, Newcastle Art School, and a Cert IV in Assessment & Workplace Training.
